I went over to Mailisha & Larissa's house on the 22nd to talk weddings!We had a great time reliving both of our weddings and got a chance to really get into
all the choices they had to make before the "big day".What follows is a transcript of our conversation as best as I can type it up.
Mailisha started by showing me the guestbook.
They asked their friends and family to write their blessings for the couple on the bottom half of the pages because they set up a photo booth, with the plan being that, once the wedding was over the brides would have all kinds of free time to match up the blesings with the picture. :)
Mailisha and Larissa found their readings by researching on line and in the library. Neither one of them is religious, Larissa isn't a fan of the word God, Mailisha wanted it to be spiritual, and Larissa's sister (one of the readers) is a born-again Christian, so there were a lot of tricky politics to negotiate. It was important to include Melinda, Larissa's sister, because they had become very close over the last seven years, and she is a very important person to both of them.
Melinda and her boyfriend Kevan had a reading that Mailisha adapted from its origingal publishing, "I remember I changed a couple of the words, because, you know, you have to."
Patty and Katherine are friends of ours from Larissa's work and they did the second reading.
Mark and Tracy sang a song; he got a little choked up while they were singing.
Hason and Parker read Shell Silverstein's "The Missing Piece finds the Big O". Parker said that she wasn't goignt to tell who waas the missing piece or the big O. :) It was a really sweet story about trying to find each other.
This certificate of marriage (a document that Milisha and Larissa created) we had blown up, and everybody signed it.
